Some pieces arrive fully formed in your imagination. This one was researched, considered, and built from a tradition that is not mine — but that I approached with deep respect and admiration.

I had been studying the silversmithing of Native American jewelry — particularly the cabochon setting work, the way stones are held by metal worked closely around them, the relationship between silver and stone that feels protective rather than decorative. I wanted to bring something of that sensibility into my own work. This piece was the result. My first piece in a silver tone. A new direction, arrived at carefully.

The amethyst cluster at the centre is a natural triangle — deep violet, raw, unpolished, exactly as it came from the earth. Around it, embedded into the hand-sculpted silver-toned setting, are freshwater pearls I have carried since 1997. I was working at a jewelry store in the Black Forest in Germany. At Christmas that year, they gave each of us a pearl necklace. When mine eventually broke, I saved every pearl. I kept them for nearly thirty years, waiting — the way I wait with all the best things — until I understood exactly where they belonged.

They belong here. Ringing the amethyst like a quiet constellation, each one pressing into the dark silver setting with the particular softness that only a pearl can bring to something so raw and geological.

The chain is a substantial steel figaro chain — cool, industrial, modern — creating a deliberate tension with the ancient quality of the stone and the pearls. Something old carried by something new. That tension is entirely the point.

Amethyst works with the crown and third eye chakras — intuition, spiritual protection, inner clarity.
