Pyrite Geode Necklace #46
This piece has a past life.
It was one of my earliest — made somewhere around piece seven, eight or nine, long before it became piece forty-six. It was purple then. Set in purple, finished in purple, a piece I looked at regularly and felt was not quite finished becoming what it was supposed to be. So it stayed. It hung in the studio for a long time — the way certain pieces do, waiting for you to understand them.
And then one day I looked at it and saw it clearly. Not purple. Silver.
I stripped it back. I reworked it. I finished it in fine silver leaf, painting and detailing until it was exactly right. And in doing that, some of the purple from its previous life survived — traces still visible in the setting, a ghost of what it was before it became what it is. I decided to keep those traces. They are part of the piece's story now. A record of transformation rather than a flaw to be corrected.
At the centre is a pyrite geode — and if you have never looked into a pyrite geode, nothing quite prepares you for it. The interior is dense with metallic crystal formations, dark and brilliant simultaneously, catching light with that particular gold-black fire that only pyrite produces. It is mesmerising in the truest sense of the word — you find yourself looking into it and losing track of time.
The vintage chain carries it with the authority the piece deserves.
Pyrite works with the solar plexus chakra — confidence, willpower, the particular kind of courage that comes from knowing your own strength. Keep it away from water, as with all pyrite — its iron content means prolonged moisture is not its friend.
