Aura quartz is quartz that has been treated with a thin metallic coating — in this case producing that extraordinary rainbow iridescence that shifts from green to violet to gold to black depending on the light and the angle. It is man-made in process but not in feeling. The result is something that looks like it was found at the bottom of a tide pool on a planet with two suns — alien, alive, completely impossible to look away from.

The stone itself protrudes from the setting — three-dimensional, present, demanding to be noticed. Around it, a hand-sculpted setting finished with 24 carat gold leaf and pure copper leaf — two metals, two temperatures of light, working together the way fire and earth work together.

But the cord is where this piece becomes something else entirely.

I am a maker in every sense of the word. I sew, I knit, I weave, I crochet. My hands need to be making something — always have. With this piece I made a decision that the cord itself would be part of the art — not a functional afterthought but a deliberate element of the work. The macramé is hand-woven in cracked black leather, the particular pattern of a regular macramé knot creating a dense, tactile, completely handmade cord that sits against the neck the way a collar should — close, confident, completely present.

The cracked leather is intentional. Like the patina on bronze, like the phantom inside a crystal — the marks of time and use are not flaws. They are the piece telling you it has lived.

Aura quartz works with all chakras — its rainbow spectrum touches every energy centre simultaneously, making it a stone of alignment, joy and the particular kind of wonder that arrives when you stop expecting the world to be ordinary.
